Brock Lesnar: WWE Allowing Superstar to Promote Sponsors on Attire Is Smart Move

It is something that is unprecedented in professional wrestling, but the WWE has reportedly agreed to allow Brock Lesnar to promote his sponsors on his attire at Extreme Rules. While some purists may not be in support of that, it is a shrewd maneuver by the company.

According to F4WOnline.com (via WrestlingInc.com), Lesnar’s attire will have advertisements on it, just as the back of his shirt has during his first couple of appearances with the company. Since the WWE is typically so wrapped up in its own sponsors, it’s a bit surprising to see an individual superstar promoting outside sponsors.

The report suggests that Lesnar negotiated the ability to promote his own sponsors in his contract, and that seems like it’s quite likely. There have been numerous reports that have said that Lesnar signed a contract somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 million for one year, but receiving sponsorship rights may be his biggest coup.

Whatever the case, Vince McMahon was very smart to allow Lesnar to continue sporting his sponsors’ logos. Sponsorship has become a huge deal for UFC fighters, so that was probably a major demand of Lesnar’s during contract negotiations. McMahon could have been a hardliner and stuck to his guns, but giving in a little bit got him a lot more in return.

It isn’t as if the ads are going to have any bearing on the product, since Lesnar is simply wearing them and not actually addressing them in any way. Some might think that it sets a bad precedent in terms of letting everyone promote their own sponsors, but this seems to be a special exception that was absolutely necessary in order to land Lesnar.

There is no question that it will be interesting to see how fans react when he finally does don the sponsor-laden trunks. While most probably won’t even care or notice, it might upset some purists. Whenever there is talk of teams putting sponsors on their uniforms in one of the four major sports leagues, there is often a ton of backlash, so perhaps the WWE would be the same.

Fans deal with commercials and sponsors enough as it is while watching wrestling, so it might irk some people that they’ll have to see ads on a wrestler’s trunks as well. It certainly isn’t something that would bother me, though, and if anything, it will probably give Lesnar’s match with John Cena more of a realistic feel.

Also, while there is some crossover appeal, UFC fans aren’t necessarily interested in WWE, since the hardcore supporters tend to turn their noses up at the WWE for being “fake.” With Lesnar now back in the WWE, though, UFC fans seem to be taking notice, and with Lesnar competing in UFC-style trunks with sponsors on them, it will likely appeal to non-wrestling fans even more.

As long as it isn’t something that bothers the WWE’s own sponsors, there really isn’t a downside to allowing Lesnar to promote his sponsors. Not only did it allow the company to lock him up and create an intriguing storyline with Cena, but the more realistic the product seems, the better.

Regardless of how big of a deal this whole situation is made out to be, all most people are going to be worried about at Extreme Rules is Lesnar vs. Cena. The ads may persist after that, but eventually, nobody will even notice them.

WWE News: Why the Rock’s New Show Proves He’ll Never Fully Commit to WWE

The Rock finally returned to the WWE in 2011 and has left WWE fans wanting him to be back full-time. He is one of the most exciting wrestlers of all time and has the ability to electrify fans every night.

On the Raw after his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 28, The Rock delivered a message that electrified the WWE again. He said that he intends to become the WWE champion.

In order to be the WWE champion again, The Rock would have to return as a full-time WWE superstar.

The question is, will The Rock ever fully commit to the WWE and become a full-time superstar?

The things he’s doing outside of the WWE prove he will never fully commit.

According to Varierty.com, The Rock has a new show on television. He is teaming up with Ben Silverman’s Electus Entertainment to start a competition TV show called The Hero.

The show will give teams of ordinary people a chance to be the next hero. These people will be sent on a “high-stakes global adventure across three continents to prove what they are able to overcome, sacrifice and undergo for the strength of their groups.”

What this new venture for The Rock shows is that the WWE is not The Rock’s priority and he will never fully commit to the company.

After the win over John Cena, The Rock has gone right back into his hiatus. He is back to being an actor and this new show is a clear sign that The Rock is not interested in delegating the majority of his time to the WWE.

If he wanted to fully commit to the company that made him famous, he could temporarily stop taking on new projects outside of it. The Rock could finish up the venture that he has already committed to and open up his schedule for the WWE.

The Rock’s actions are speaking louder than his words.

Despite reassuring fans he will never leave the WWE, The Rock has gone away again. While “never leaving” doesn’t mean he will be there every week, it does mean he will consistently be involved with the company. This new show is just another thing that gets in the way of him consistently making appearances with the WWE.

His intentions were to venture outside of professional wrestling when he left the company in 2004. The Rock is still more interested in work outside of the WWE.

The Rock’s decision to be a part of this new show should be disappointing news to WWE fans.

WWE: Daniel Bryan Being Pushed

Man, how awesome was Daniel Bryan on Monday?

As if his amazing backstage segment wasn’t enough, Bryan also picked up a victory over Kofi Kingston after making Kingston tap to the newly renamed Yes Lock.

The crowd absolutely loved Bryan’s “Yes” catchphrase, and anyone who think it’s going anywhere anytime soon is sorely mistaken.

The WWE is milking this “Yes” craze for everything it’s worth, and it’s working.

Bryan had a great promo and a good match on Monday’s Raw, he continues to be over like rover and was about as entertaining as ever on this week’s Raw.

WWE: The Tag Team Division Is Dying Out

We’ve seen some recent Twitter rants from the WWE Tag Team Champions, who have been complaining about their lack of TV time.

I just don’t think that what happened on Monday’s Raw is exactly what they had in mind.

Epico and Primo had a non-title tag team match against The Big Show and The Great Khali, and they were essentially squashed by the two giant superstars in a match that only lasted a few minutes.

Wanna know why tag team wrestling in the WWE is dead? This is why.

No one is gonna give a crap about the tag team division if its champions lose to the guy who continues to kill careers and another guy who can hardly walk, let alone wrestle.

Horrible booking, WWE. Horrible booking.

WWE: John Cena Being Pushed Down The Ladder

John Cena’s post-WrestleMania slump continues.

After getting leveled with two F5′s on the prior two episodes of Raw, Cena faced Lord Tensai in this week’s main event…and lost.

That means that the last three Raws have ended with another superstar getting the best of Cena. A very rare sight.

I’m sure that all these bad things are happening to Cena just so that he can eventually “rise above hate,” but at least for now, he is struggling to get out of this post-Mania funk.

Cena haters everywhere are probably loving it.

WWE: Lord Tensai Getting A Huge Push

After getting easy squash victories in his first two matches, Lord Tensai finally had an actual match on this week’s Raw.

Oh, and it just so happened to be the main event Extreme Rules match against John Cena.

Although Tensai needed the help of David Otunga and Sakamoto to get the win in the match, he still beat the face of the company in the main event of its flagship show.

It says a lot about the WWE’s plans and hopes for Lord Tensai to put him over Cena just three weeks after his debut.

I thought Tensai looked a little sloppy and still am not crazy about his gimmick, but he’s clearly got the support of Creative, and that’s all that matters for him.

WWE News: The Latest on New Championship Match Added to WWE Extreme Rules

Following CM Punk getting the better of Chris Jericho in their match at WrestleMania 28, Y2J didn’t give up in his quest for the WWE Championship as he’s taken their rivalry to the next level with attacking and splashing alcohol on the straight edge champion.

With Jericho leaving the Punk lying decimated the last few weeks, it was just a matter of time before the next encounter between the two superstars all with the biggest prize in the WWE hanging in the balance.

During the tapings for Raw SuperShow in London today, the WWE announced that Chris Jericho will face CM Punk at Extreme Rules later this month in his hometown in an aptly named Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Title.

With John Cena and Brock Lesnar set to go one-on-one in an Extreme Rules match at the pay-per-view, the card for Extreme Rules is taking shape to be a great event for theWWE after the success of WrestleMania earlier this month.

As for the match between Punk and Jericho, I believe the Chicago Street Fight could possibly top their match in Miami with all the added mind games that Y2J has been doing to get in the head of the WWE champion.

In the end, CM Punk will in all likelihood knock off Chris Jericho for the second time in less than a month and walk out of the Allstate Arena in Chicago with the WWEChampionship yet again.

After their classic match in front of more than 78 thousand people at WrestleMania in Miami, do you think the second match between Punk and Jericho in a Chicago Street Fight match up to their first encounter this year?

Brock Lesnar: Use of Real Force on John Cena Adds Intrigue to WWE Extreme Rules

Whether it was scripted or not, whether John Lauranaitis wanted it or not, Brock Lesnar’s punch (and the bloody lip it precipitated) helped to instill the WWE’s newest feud—between Lesnar, the former UFC star, and John Cena—with some real, actual drama.

As far as anyone could tell, Lesnar didn’t have a packet of ketchup or any other blood substitute in his hand when his clenched fist actually glanced Cena’s mug.

So, for now, it seems safe to assume that the damage done by Lesnar was real and that his first meaningful WWE match since 2004—against The Prototype at Extreme Rules on April 29—will mark a rather entertaining return to action for the former three-time WWE champion.

His sojourn into the NFL didn’t go nearly as well as he’d hoped, and while Lesnar was able to achieve stardom as a heavyweight in the UFC, his struggles with diverticulitis ultimately prevented him from carving out a more permanent niche atop the world of mixed martial arts.

But while illness may have harmed Lesnar’s body, it’s hardly hindered his natural abilities as a showman, particularly one who so readily plays the heel. He’s made that much clear since he stepped back into the ring on Monday Night Raw two weeks ago, one night after Cena was finally felled by The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII.

First, by attacking Cena at the end of that week’s show, and then by meeting Cena’s retaliation the following week with the much-discussed fist to the face.

Where many feuds are given plenty of time and space to develop (i.e. the year leading up to Cena vs. The Rock at WrestleMania), Lesnar and Cena have been granted all of 27 days to build up a score to settle at Extreme Rules. In that sense, then, Cena’s busted lip would seem to be a nifty bit of written-in reality.

Either way, it wasn’t a bad way to up the ante between two of the most polarizing figures in sports entertainment.

Extreme Rules 2012: John Cena vs Brock Lesnar

It was announced last night on RAW, that John Laurinitis have made this match into an extreme rules match. Everything goes.

I am so pumped up for this match. Finally we will see Brock Lesnar in action in a wrestling ring for the first time in years. The outcome for this match will be Brock Lesnar as the winner if you ask me. But we can always hope that Cena will make a good fight.

John Cena is at this point being pushed off from the number 1 spot and with all the rumors saying that Goldberg wants to come back for another run and Stone Cold Steve Austin saying he got another fight in him.. I don’t think John Cena will be the face of the company for much longer if these rumors come true and if Brock Lesnar stays in the WWE.
